The Comic Critic Reviews: The Last of Sheila. And The Return of Stickman #1093

I remember seeing The Last of Sheila on Showtime a few years after it was released. I recalled a number of scenes, but not the full storyline. Watching it again a few days ago, my faulty memory wasn’t helped by the series of sudden twists the plot takes. Viewers are lulled into a perspective on events that proves to be false. Whether or not you enjoy this film depends on how much you can tie clues together. I’ll give the director credit for not pointing to each clue with a neon sign, so viewers actually have to use their brains.

I love it when fans send in guest strips. Here is the letter that came with the five strips I will be featuring this week from guest cartoonist Jake Morris.

Hello you guys over the pond,
My name is Jake Morris and I discovered 'The Return of Stickman!' about mid November. Since then, i have subscribed and have been fascinated by all of your creations. The additional inspiration to my already fanatic obsession about drawing stickmen and comics made me create these 5 comics. I would have sent them in one by one, but i have been a bit busy and have sent them in all at once.

Ukulele Phil and the Hula Kids

About a year ago I created a logo for Ukulele Phil and the Hula Kids. The logo consisted of three elements, each a figure. I created the figures so the elements could be used together or separated and moved around. The tiki head, ukulele and such. Phil has been taking advantage of this as he puts together swag and posters. He send me this, his most recent poster.

As you might have guessed, this joke has some real world roots. In junior high I ran a table in the back of the library. But half the time we played blackjack and I was the house. The lookout got twenty percent. In college I was usually the only sober one at the table. Online poker was a cold bucket of reality.

I live on the west coast and I go to bed at ten o’clock. Since I don’t watch any of the late night shows that appear after the news it’s hard to form an opinion about any of them. But, just like the rest of the world, I have been upset over a poor decision by some television executive to change on of my favorite shows. So part of me can relate to the support being shown. And I think that it sucks to have your time slot moved around so quickly. So I'm with Coco. I just wonder what this looks like to somebody who watches no television at all. And I'm wondering on the shelf-life of this gag.
