Tiki Torch

Here is another Tiki. I drew this one while I was on a plane to Denver. I wonder what it would look like if I kept it to just three colors?

Love the "Tiki Torch". I was wondering what, if any, advice you could offer my 11 year son who never stops drawing cartoons. He is interested in the business end but I have little knowledge in this area. Also if there are programs on the computer or books you would recommend. I would appreciate it.

Computer programs are just like pens, there are lots of them and each do a different thing. But, you honestly can't do better than learning the basics. This means working with all sorts of different ink pens, from mechanically sized .005-.8 sizes, to brush tip, to brushed themselves with all sorts of paper. Hand him a new pen each week. Encourage him to try anything and rub it around. This is the most cost effective way of learning how and with what you like to draw. Later, those techniques can be emulated by computer programs, which change rapidly.
