The Return of Stickman #1475 & #1476

In case you missed the news story that inspired these two strips, here it is. Just a heads up that next weekend I'm going to be in Portland, Oregon selling my schlock at the Stumptown Comic Fest. I'll be sharing my table with Matt Youngmark of Chooseomatic Books. You will be able to find us at table D03. I'll be sharing the map as soon as it's released.

The Return of Stickman #1344

I'm not the only person who thinks this is a conspiracy.

If you like near Portland, Oregon you might want to check out The Portland Comic Book Show this Sunday. I'll be there selling my various merchandise.

The Comic Critic Reviews Sucker Punch

The visuals were amazing. Too bad they weren’t there at the start of the movie. I’d wanted the first image on the screen to be the sensual equivalent of taking that first sip of soda from a freshly popped can. Instead, I got a mouthful of dishwater. Maybe it began so quietly that I didn’t notice. Maybe it was that unhurried path through a hackneyed opening story that put me off. Whatever the cause, as the closing credits ran, the wild visuals and fun action were not enough for me to forgive Sucker Punch its lame start. I am, however, going to enjoy seeing the costumes worn by fans at future comic conventions.

The Return of Stickman #1123

John Markuson is my copy editor. I drive his insane. Often I will post comics that I think are perfect transcripts of the scripts I sent him. Yesterday, and this has been corrected, he asked how a geek like me could possibly miss-spell Leonard Nimoy?

The Return of Stickman #1122

This guy usually shows up and remains planted in front of you just as largest crowd of potential buyers come through. I thought about drawing a crowd behind him, but I'm already late getting out the door to see the dentist.

The Return of Stickman #1121

I sold more books than I did posters at the comicon. But I'm happy that I did bring along the posters as their income took care of parking and meals. Actually, my friend Joe Manfredini took care of meals and was kind enough board me while I was in Seattle. Huh, I know he got a book and a shirt for his wonderful wife Liz, but did he get a poster too?

The Return of Stickman #1120

I had a lot of fun at the Emerald City Comicon selling my book The Comic Critic Presents Seldom Seen Films. Between autograph requests I wrote a full week's worth of strips. If you want a copy of the book, go here.

Mark Monlux participates in the 24 Hour Comic Challenge

The 24 Hour Comic Challenge is where a cartoonist must conceive, write, sketch, and ink a 24 page comic book in 24 hours. Several comic book stores and cartoon related organizations organize this marathon to fall on one day each year. This year it was Saturday, Oct 3rd. The location was Comic Book Ink, my favorite comic book store in Tacoma. Amongst the other participants were my friends from The CLAW.

This is my story for this year. If you want to see the whole strip click here.

The Comic Critic Reviews Robo Vampire. Also: The Return of Stickman #1028

Robo Vampire is so abysmally horrible that it made a very special list: my Top Ten Worst Movies of All Time. Believe me, when I say that, I have seen some monumental disasters. My strip makes fun of how I felt on viewing it—that it started out as a bad cop vs. drug lord kung-fu flick, and then, halfway through production, the director decided that it needed something, anything, to give it some potential market value. If by any chance, I am mistaken, and this is how the script was originally conceived, I would be left wordless. Which is just how this film should be seen. During a loud party put it on, just to have something going on that will befuddle your guests. Other than the novelty of moving wallpaper, this film lacks any merit and I highly advise you to avoid it. Why did I review it? Because it was a fan’s suggestion. And I told him that I would move it to the top of my list of reviews to do—if he updated his webcomic’s archive. He did, so I did. And now I wish, oh how I wish, I hadn’t.

The Return of Stickman #980

I decided to end this week's comic book convention theme the same way comic book conventions end for those who attend; a big party for some, and a return to loneliness for others. And I had fun rehashing the gag line from the first one following the theme.

The Return of Stickman #979

Sometimes there is only standing room over in the food court at comic conventions. And I sometimes think you could make a killing by renting out chairs.

The Return of Stickman #978

While I had many friends with booths at the Emerald City Comicon, it was at Bill Morse's table that I would stop by and drop of my purchases so I could be light on my feet. Bill does a strip called Rhapsodies for which he has drawn over a thousand strips. And of course a few of his books grace my shelves. Here is a shot of Bill displaying his wares at the Comicon.

The Return of Stickman #977

A lot of comic conventions have very affordable tables in the artists’ alley. And when you think of how they provide two passes per table, and how much a full event pass is, well, okay it doesn't even out. But, as I waddled along in line with the rest of the fanboy kingdom, I thought of two things. One, freaks and weirdos have a lot of disposable income. Two, it sure would be nice to be sitting behind a table right now.

The Return of Stickman #976

While I was standing in line for the Emerald City Comicon, I saw these two guys, obviously buddies attending the convention together. And both were wearing Indiana Jones outfits. And it was right then that a week's worth of strips popped right into my head.
