The Return of Stickman #1574

I drew this strip a few weeks ago back when the news story first broke. It's been sitting on my desk waiting its turn. Good luck finding the news story that inspired it. Tonight will be the second gather of an online drawing group: Epic Sketch Time.

The Return of Stickman #1492

I left enough clues in the cartoon that you should be able to find the news story that inspired this comic.

Oh, I nearly forgot. Tomorrow I will be sharing the Jet City Comic Show both at the Proctor Art Festival in Tacoma. The event will be from 10 a.m. until 6 p.m. and I look forward to seeing my fellow Tacoma natives there.

The Comic Critic Reviews The Expendables

Make no mistake: The Expendables is a guys’ movie. Your ears are going to hear far more tendons snapping, bones crunching, knives slicing, bodies impacting, guns firing, blood splatting, and explosions exploding (accompanied with anticipatory music) than they will dialog. What dialog there is I found generally snarky and lighthearted when it’s not busy filling itself with clichés. Don’t get me wrong; clichés are good when it comes to guy movies. Guns. Explosions. Grunting. Men want you to just keep heaping that stuff on the plate like bacon on their breakfasts. It might not be good for you, but it tastes good. This is not a date movie. It is not a chick flick. The Bechdet Test doesn’t even appear on this movie’s radar. In fact, there are only four women in it. The first is crying. The second has to be asked her name. The third, when she’s not crying, draws pictures of women crying. And the fourth is listed in the credits as “Old Woman Bartender.” I spent last weekend at Crypticon. You can see a few of the photos I took, along with photos other people took, at Flickr's Crypticon Group. This coming Saturday, June 2nd, I will be at the Olympia Comic Festival. I hope to see a lot of South Sounders there.

The Return of Stickman #1171

I'm not against a person owning a firearm. But, since the only shootings in home improvement stores I've heard about have been self-inflicted, you would think folks would leave their guns at home when buying chalk.

The Return of Stickman #1068

I found this quirky law on the internet. Everybody knows that anything you read on the internet is true. And it not really a no guns for gimps law, merely an exemption to a requirement. Sheesh. Read the fine print people.

The Return of Stickman #1067

I'm not favoring Tacoma in any way here. I'm sure there are armed pizza delivery guys in all fifty states.

The Return of Stickman #1066

I have about three more strips on this topic I could draw up. Living in a state that borders Canada, and having crossed it countless times, I just can't fathom someone not being familiar with the concept that they will need to obeying the laws of that country, and that maybe they might want to get familiar with those laws.

The Comic Critic Reviews: He's Just not that into you. Also, you get The Return of Stickman #1022

Normally I don’t memorize movie lines. I’m more of a visual guy, so I remember scenes much better. I knew this guy named Rick; he could remember movie lines like nobody’s business. We had great fun replaying The Good, The Bad and The Ugly, with me describing the scenes as he did the dialog. And we would have kept it up, but the folks we were with begged us to be merciful and stop. What does our little geek-out session have to do with He’s Just Not That Into You? Well, nothing really. I have these lines memorized because I was doing a lot of cross-country flying and received some sort of karmic retribution: He’s Just Not That Into You was the in-flight movie five times in a row. I’m a slow learner, but I now carry back-up movies to watch.

You're stark naked in the woods and the police have you cornered. Why? Why not go quietly? Why choose the hard way to end that particular chapter in your life? I guess you were going for as many poor decisions in a day as you could possibly manage.
